The Karokians live on a large Island, which they have named "Corsica". Further more, Karokians have made their way of life to revolve around fishing, and boating. The Karok tribal leader, Kele, has taught his people in the way of sailing on primitive rafts, which can be used to travel far out to sea for fishing. Fish provide not only food for the Karokians, but a form of primitive armor when they are skinned. The local militia wears fish scales around their feet and are armed with crude spears and axes.

Roleplay Map and Discussion Empty Caren

Post by Carencroft Sat Apr 30, 2016 7:25 am

Caren walked out of his hut into the stiff wind. He smelled the air, like a typical sailor. "Storms coming," he said as his wife made her way out of the primitive shelter.

They had arrived only a week beforehand on the giant vessel. Caren was the captain of that majestic ship, but it was no more. They were sailing for the old continent and had crossed the Wide Sea to reach their destination. The BJS Valiant had crashed into the rocky shores a week earlier. Caren had led the group dozens of miles down the coast to the river mouth. They trekked inland for a few more miles, and set up camp. The group had spent their last several days building wood huts and finding food. The River provided a supply of eel and bass, whereas the woods around them gave deer, rabbit, birds, and other wildlife. The good soil for agriculture, was across the river. They would have to ford it to build farms.

As captain of the ship, Caren had already established himself as leader of the group. 500 sailors had survived the crash along the shore. The crew had set up a large village, a rough collection of 150 built huts and another 150 in construction. Caren knew that he had certain skill sets within his crew, and he needed the find them and assign duties. "Clyde, Get me Jordan will ye!" Jordan was the ships navigator, and second in command. When Jordan arrived, Caren talked with him about what to do. A plan had been set.

Three Karokian sailors were washed out too see, and were shipwrecked on the mainland. Not knowing what to do, they stumbled upon Caren's camp, and approached one of the settlers.

The settler slowly backed away, stumbling over some roots as he scrambled to make it into the village square. He began to yell for help, and hurried back to his family in his hut. The Valiant had held 300 people, and the other 200 were their families. The settler hurried into his home to retrieve his sword. Slowly, other people began to appear outside of their homes. Some of the more brave sailors had taken their weapons and surrounded the three men facing them. Caren was slowly walking towards them with at a steady pace. One his right side, was his navigator Jordan. On his left, was Clyde, the bosun and third in command. The village was already ruled by a practical oligarchy, with Caren as it's head. He was a kind and benevolent ruler, he was competent, and was willing to make quick decisions in times of need. The ruling group, known as the Compass, consisted of Caren and his chief officers. The Sailmaster, Navigator, Bosun, and others. Caren strode directly up the first man, but waved the rest of his officers behind the circle of sailors. He stood there for a solid 3 three minutes, towering over the silent man. He could sense fear in those eyes.

"Do you speak the common tongue?"

The other man stood there silently, not even mouthing a word.

"Tie them up in the town square, we will feed them when they talk."

Caren strode away to the officers hut, followed by Jordan and Clyde. 5 of the sailors went to work tying up the men using some of the spare rope salvaged from the wreck.

Inside the cabin:
"We need small naval vessels, fishing boats at least, to be able to fish along the river and exercise power." Caren said. No where near the Valiant, but something at least. He looked at John, his Sailmaster. "I want you to supervise that. We need to grow our population as well. Jordan, I want you to lead hunting parties into the surrounding woods to gather food. Clyde, you are in charge of water and fishing. Find freshwater for the masses."

In the absence of the three fishermen, Kele sends out the militia to search for any remains of them in the water. One man reports finding the shipwrecked boat on the mainland, near a river. A massive search is conducted, and Kele himself finds Meridia, and prepares to retrieve his tribe mates. He moves towards the city center, with two militia men, one at either side of him.

Kele signals the rest of the militia, and the volunteer rescue workers to search every building, and taking anyone they find hostage. They only find a young boy who was most likely separated from his parents. After searching the city, the Karokians leave, and continue searching for the three men.

Agran looked around. There was a storm brewing to the south, but everything seemed to be calm in the bay. It was always calm in the bay and he was happy for that.

Agran knew that there were other settlers who had found the continent, but when they had sailed south to north upon finding the new continent, they hadn't seen anyone.

Agran wasn't surprised then because the storm was very strong. So strong in fact that the sturdy Bodensee Boats, built for the freezing north of Amar, their home continent, were moving slowly, taking the wind side on, moving in a zig-zag motion.

Then he saw a ship approaching from the south. He quickly rowed over to the main boat that they'd been using for collecting the fish, called the rest of the catchers over and sailed back. They may have been first here, but they wanted to be anonymous until they were more sure of their inland surroundings.

The sailors close in, prepared for an exchange. Caren calls out from behind his men. "Hold!" He walks forward to the men. One of them, in panic, stabs Caren in the chest. He falls to the ground, eyes open in surprise. The sailors close in furry realizing their captain is close to death.

Agran placed the boats in the cave that they'd found when sailing up. It was hidden a little up the stream that ran down from the southernmost mountain, Tronfjell. The cave was completely obscured from the outside and Agran was pleased.

He was generally pleased - the village itself was behind the mountain, so that the smoke couldn't be seen from the sea. But the yearning to conquer more land was slowly overcoming him. The month he'd spent camped up in the village was beginning to take its toll.

He walked over to the main tent. Here he found Nongrot, the main leader. Nongrot had been an old friend, but he'd been banished from Bodensee and decided to set up his own colony. By name, he was leader, but in reality he always asked his closest advisors what to do. Agran was his fishing advisor.

The last Karok was killed. It was a bloody melee. 4 Meridians lay dead, Caren was close to gone, and Jordan had been killed as well. For the time being, Clyde was in command. The Ships doctor carried Caren on a stretcher back to the camp. Amazingly, he was still alive. He had a lost a lot of blood, and there was a good chance infection would break in and possibly overcome his already weakened immune system. He was a strong man however, and the doctor believed there could be chance of a long recovery. Clyde began to issue orders to all of his men. Caren's child had been retrieved, luckily, at the age of 1, he should not be able to remember the incidents involving his father. The prisoners had been hauled back to the camp, and were promptly executed. Clyde decided that he needed to get things back into order while Caren was close to death. He issued the same orders Caren had given earlier, and the village sat there going about their daily tasks.

The village had produced 4 smaller fishing vessels, and more were on there way. Clyde wanted new territories and decided that upriver was the way to go. They had established a stable food supply, and were going to begin growth. Clyde had ordered the construction of a larger hut in the center of town. After the death of Jordan, a new government would have to begin. That would be its beginning. Clyde had already sent boats into the northern seas and southern seas looking for other natives and peoples to trade with. A subdued air hung over the large village, morale was low, and people were worried about this new land. Their home land had declared war on the nation of Bodensee. After several long years of fighting, the Valiant had been sent to new lands to make peace with the other colonials. The ship had crashed as they were patrolling the coasts, and they had yet to find the Bodensee people that they were supposed to be friends with. This would have to wait however. The village had just lost 5 people, and it needed to calm down, regroup, and consider the events that had recently occurred.

Roleplay Map and Discussion Empty Re: Roleplay Map and Discussion

Post by Flawless Nation Name Sat Apr 30, 2016 10:06 pm

After returning to Corsica, the harsh news of the death Kele, as well as Takota, led a crushing blow to the morale at camp. Knowing that three lay dead, and that three more were likely to be executed, the Karokians elected Alo, Kele's grandson, as chief. At the age of 19, he was the youngest Chieftain ever to rule the tribe, but his experience would make him a great leader. In fact, Alo had already begun making changes in the city. "In order to progress, and make our way in the world, we must set our legacy in stone". He assigned Delson, who was a problem-solving architect, to design the layout of a new city square, with paved roads and buildings as high as three stories high to house the Karokians. The death of Kele had created a new age for the Karokians. The stone age.

Karokians weren't unfamiliar with using stone. In fact, most Karokian weapons were forged from stone. But the more challenging aspect of using stone was finding a reliable source of it. Corsica held very little stone, besides what was near the highly active volcano, known as Gaversel Volcano. Instead, Delson thought it would be more efficient to collect stone from the smaller islands in the same chain of islands as Corsica. After some exploration, Delson and Alo agreed that the northern most island, Cahun, was the best for gathering stone, so Alo ordered the construction of ports on either islands, to easily move rock and stone from Cahun to Corsica. Massive quarries were built, and construction of the city, or as the Karokians would call it, Karok, had begun. Soon flimsy structures made from sticks and hide would be replaced by stone buildings, with enough room to fit an army of Karokians within each. Walls were erected around the city, to keep the Meridians away, in case of any attacks of vengeance occurred.

Roleplay Map and Discussion Empty Re: Roleplay Map and Discussion

Post by Bodensee Sun May 01, 2016 6:00 am

Nongrot called over his advisors. He had recieved word that there had been a scuffle between Meridia and another colony and wondered what to do with this information.

Agran looked up from the map he was drawing along with Kuuisk. Kuuisk was a small man, but looks decieve and he was definitely the best fighter of the group. His fighting know how also extended to scouting, but he had so far no found anything in the mountains to the north.

Nongrot opened his mouth, but paused when Norvik came in. "Excellent that you came, what can you say about the village?"

"It's in good condition, but i would say we need a logging camp. We are using a lot of wood."

"Is that not dangerous?"

"Very."

"May i speak?" piped up Kuuisk. With no objections, he started talking. "As we know, the land to the south is very flat. This means that if we can tame the horses, we can start trade and not be attacked for the moment. Everybody is building on quicksand, everybody knows that a battle at the moment is an awful idea. Therefore, i think we cam build a camp - it's not like it's in the way of anything."

Nobody had noticed Huron come in, but the last advisor spoke in his calm, measured voice. "We have seen the Meridians from afar, i believe they are looking for us. In terms of a camp - nobody lives in the forest. It is safe.

I have heard rumours from the villagers in the mountains of a horse-loving nation far down the river. Maybe we could become friends - we seem to have forgotten our Mongolian heritage. We need to ride horses again.

My other problem we can't go on being called colony of Bodensee much longer. I propose we call this settlement Alvadal, the man who helped our god, Tronfjell, also the name of the mountain."

Nongrot spoke, "Alvadal, yes, good name. Logging camp to be constructed. As for horse riding, can i put you Huron in charge? You are the best horse rider. Take 20 men and set up a camp that isn't visible from the sea."

Roleplay Map and Discussion Empty Re: Roleplay Map and Discussion

Post by jonistavia Sun May 01, 2016 7:06 am

"Heave-to!"

Shouting could be heard from the docks, drawing the attention of the small community. Dock was too much really, earlier generations had built wooden piers for smaller barges and the facilities had barely been modernised. Across the bay, two galleys could be seen, a steady stream of vessels moving to and fro between the small village and the ships themselves. They were a spectacular sight. The pride of the Joshkan Lord, it had taken a year to complete the sleek boats.

Amongst playing children, the screeching of birds and soft rushing of the waves, two expeditions were being launched. One was to the South, where, across the "Land's Pike" lay a large body of water with what appeared to be a civilisation across the "Hollow Sea". The second would be heading north, following the land to search for people and hospitable land. For crops were scarce and timber hard to come by.

Both were laden with pickled meat and fish for months and fresh water for what was hoped to be enough. The Lord, an easily angered old man, had sent a detachment of soldiers down to the bay from his high castle in the mountains, both ships would be receiving four bowmen, eight pikemen in gloriously yellow colours and a representative of the lord himself. His first-born would be heading north, a knight of noble birth and a proven veteran of the harsh northern weather and combat, to the south.

The crowd parted as they marched through the village, bowing their heads before the prince of the land and shying away from his knight. The soldiers were met with emotion, for had they not sat in the chapel? Had they not played here when they were young? Were they not the relatives of those who stayed behind? Nobody knew when they would return.

As the prince's ship departed for the horizon, the knight, Aivo Votelevic, gave orders to move out. Bellowing for faster work, he shakily made his way to the bow, eagerly awaiting the adventures the voyage would bring.

Roleplay Map and Discussion Empty Re: Roleplay Map and Discussion

Post by Carencroft Sun May 01, 2016 10:17 am

The Valiant had brought 50 horses beneath the decks. A stable had already been built in the town earlier this week. The Horsemaster, Cloff, had taken to training 50 of the men had to ride. Each sailor carried their own sword and saxe. Some of the metals had already been melted down to make different tools. Wood had been collected, chopped into shape, polished, and hardened into poles. During this process, the melted iron was made into wedge shapes. The village had around 100 spears. 50 of them would go to the cavalry. Cloff had some experience fighting on the battlefield with a horse, so Clyde had him made cavalry commander.

Clyde walked through the town center, he was pleased. Things were going well, and that was something that was always good. Caren was making a startling fast recovery and would be in full command in about a month. Clyde was used to his position of power, but was willing to give it up to someone who could do a better job. They had been able to make tools, build huts, and start trade. Clyde now ordered the construction of larger vessels. Due to their position on the continent, they would need to have a strong navy. 2 caravels and 3 galleys were ordered. Construction would be finished in 6 months. They had 4 shipwrights, and most of the men were sailors. This would only mean better things for construction.

They had found beeswax earlier, and had the fortune to make candles. The village was well lit, airy, and cozy. Clyde walked down to the simple dock they made, although it was more a small jetty.
He called out to group of sailors near the fishing boats on the quay.
"Take two fishing boats, I want you to sail down the coast and present a peace treaty to the Karoks. We want to trade, and we pose no threat." Ay sir!

Clyde was also using the light cavalry he had created to the best advantage he could. As soon as they finished training, he would send them in foraging parties deeper inland to find more resources. Three fishing boats had been sent out earlier in the month upriver to discover and trade with more natives. He had tasked the women to building small farms around the town using some local grains they had discovered earlier. The central building had been built on a ditch, and a small wooden palisade surrounded it. If worst came to worst, they could retreat within their makeshift Mott-and-Bailey castle. Clyde however, hoped it would not come to this. He wanted to be peaceful with the native people, and by trading, they could make a large civilization quite quickly. The fishing vessels Caren had sent to the south had returned, not finding any sort of civilization. They had spotted islands off the coast, but did not explore. The ones that ventured north were yet to be retrieved. Clyde was not sure if they had made contact or were taking their time. It worried him. He was a urgent man, and did not tolerate people taking his time or using it on something useless.

He had a village to run.

Levin watched the ships depart on their opposite courses from his camp in the mountains. They had been mining the ores in the rock since dawn and they had been given a small break. He sighed. How he wished that he was on one of those ships, sailing forth into uncharted lands and to find out more about the world they lived in. He was one of many young men working in the caverns of the mountains. Here, many ores and minerals were brought up from the earth, allowing for metal tools and weapons, as well as lavishly decorated ornaments. It was gold and silver that had been laden on the ships for trade, in the hope of meeting civilisations with goods important to the Lord and people of Joshka.

Adisi looks out on his village proudly. Vast amounts of progress had been made in the previous weeks. All around him wells where being dug. The project had taken many weeks because all the workers had to dig with was primitive stone tools. Then one group yelled out, "Done!". Adisi smiled. It had been worth the wait. The village had almost doubled it's amount of wells. The village was having lots of water shortages so this was an important improvement.

Delson rushes to chieftain Alo's hut in the woods, and enters. "Alo, the sketches for the city are complete!" Alo motioned Delson to give him the paper, and he then observed the sketches, which were in great detail. "I want more wells, so the people have more water access. And a taller wall". He made a few more suggestions, and then Delson quickly added them to the pages. Alo took one last look, and approved the sketches. The construction would take years, but it would all be worth it when it was done. Alo assigned men to sail towards Cahun, and mine stone with primitive tools. Others were assigned to build large boats to transport the stone.

20 workers where lined up in front of Adisi. It was time for the annual journey for wood. That was one of the problems with living in the desert. It was pretty hard to find trees to chop down in the vast wasteland

"Do not stray off course" said Adisi to his men.

"Yes Supreme Adisi" the workers chanted.

"Remember. You will be going westward towards the forest. Chop down as many trees as you can. Then come back with haste, we need you here."

"Yes Supreme Adisi" They shouted.

With that the men began their march.
